Scan a barcode (scanner gun, camera or manual)

Understand the 3 ways to scan and the automatic scan as soon as you are on a flow screen.

Presentation

Scanning instantly finds a product by its barcode, in sales, inventory and product search. It is much faster and more reliable than typing.

Professional behavior: as soon as you are on a flow screen (Sales, Products, Movements), a scanner-gun scan is captured and processed AUTOMATICALLY, without pressing any button.

Access

Automatic (scanner-gun) scanning is active on the Sales, Products and Movements screens. A scan-icon button is also present there for the camera (mobile) and manual code entry.

Interface

  • Scanner gun (USB / Bluetooth reader): Works on all devices. No button to press: you scan, the action triggers.
  • Scan button (camera): Opens the camera to aim at a code (Android and web browser). On a Windows desktop without a camera, use a connected barcode reader or manual entry.
  • Manual entry: Lets you type the code by hand, available on all devices.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Open the desired screen (Sales, Products or Movements). -> Scanner-gun scanning is immediately active (nothing to enable).
  2. Scan the item with the scanner gun. -> The product is found and the screen action triggers (add to cart, open sheet, movement). A sound confirms. (Check: Check that the correct product was taken into account.)
  3. Without a scanner gun: tap the scan button for the camera, or type the code by hand. -> The same processing applies.

Examples

Checkout with scanner gun: On the sale screen, you scan 5 items in a row: each adds itself to the cart automatically.

Phone without a scanner gun: On mobile, you tap the scan button and aim at the barcode with the camera.

While you type in a field (search, quantity), automatic scanning does not disturb you: it only takes over when no field is being edited.

On screens with a search bar (Products, Movements), you can scan even with the cursor in the search box: a real barcode is recognized as a scan and processed immediately, while your keyboard typing stays a normal search. So you never need to click elsewhere before scanning.

On a Windows desktop, the camera is not available: use a scanner gun or manual entry.

Error messages

Unknown code
Cause: No product of your company is associated with this barcode. - Solution: On the Products screen, an unknown code opens product creation directly with the code pre-filled. Elsewhere, create the product first.

Tips

  • A scanner gun is the fastest solution at the till: plug it in, it behaves like a keyboard, no configuration required.
