Biometric login (fingerprint / face)

All roles

Sign in without retyping your password, using fingerprint, face or Windows Hello.

Presentation

Biometric login saves you from typing your password every time: the device checks your fingerprint or face, then opens your session.

Your credentials are stored only on THIS device, in its secure vault, and are used only after a successful biometric check. They are never sent anywhere else.

This option only appears if your device has biometrics (fingerprint, face recognition or Windows Hello). On the web it is not available: use the password.

Access

On the sign-in screen: the "Enable biometric login" checkbox (below the password) and, once enabled, the "Sign in with biometrics" button.

In Settings > Security > "Biometric login": to enable it (with password confirmation) or disable it.

Interface

  • "Enable biometric login" checkbox (sign-in): Tick it before signing in to remember your credentials on this device.
  • "Sign in with biometrics" button: Starts the check (fingerprint/face) then opens your session without a password.
  • "Biometric login" switch (Settings > Security): Enables (after password confirmation) or disables biometrics. Disabling erases the stored credentials.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. At sign-in, enter e-mail and password, tick "Enable biometric login", then submit. -> Your session opens and your credentials are securely stored on the device.
  2. Next time, just open the app: the biometric prompt appears automatically (a "Sign in with biometrics" button remains available if you dismissed the prompt). -> As soon as your face or fingerprint is recognized, you go straight in, without tapping or confirming anything. (Check: You land on your dashboard without typing a password.)
  3. You can also enable it later via Settings > Security > "Biometric login" (password requested to confirm). -> Once confirmed, the biometric button will appear at the next sign-in.

Examples

Enable at first sign-in: The cashier signs in, ticks the biometric checkbox, submits. The next day they tap the button, place a finger: the till opens in a second.

Enable from Settings: Already signed in, the manager goes to Settings > Security, enables "Biometric login", retypes the password to confirm: ready for next time.

On the web (browser), biometric login is not available: use your password.

If your password is changed, biometric login disables automatically: sign in again with the new password, then re-enable it.

Error messages

Incorrect password (enabling)
Cause: The password entered to confirm enabling does not match your account. - Solution: Re-enter your current password; if unsure, use "Forgot password".
Biometric authentication failed
Cause: Biometrics failed or the stored credentials are no longer valid. - Solution: Sign in with your password, then re-enable biometric login.

Tips

  • Only enable biometrics on YOUR personal device. On a shared device, keep it disabled.
  • To remove access on a device, disable "Biometric login" in Settings > Security: the stored credentials are erased.
